Cabling is invisible and unglamorous, which is exactly why it is often where corners get cut. Yet it is the layer every other system depends on, and the hardest to rework once walls and ceilings are closed.
Why standards exist
Standards such as ANSI/TIA-568 and ISO/IEC 11801 define how cabling should be designed, installed, labelled and tested. Following them means your network, CCTV, access control and AV can all run on a common, documented backbone that any competent engineer can work on in future.
What good cabling delivers
- Certified performance for every link, proven by test reports
- Clear labelling and documentation for future changes
- Headroom for higher speeds and PoE devices
- A single backbone shared by many systems
- Valid warranties tied to certified installation
Certification is not optional
Every permanent link should be tested with a calibrated certifier and the results kept in the handover pack. This is what separates infrastructure that lasts a decade from a tangle that causes intermittent faults nobody can trace.
