Revenue control: protecting parking income

A paid car park is a business, and like any business it leaks money without proper controls. Here is where income is lost, and kept.

Where parking is charged, the car park is a revenue operation, and like any cash operation it is vulnerable to leakage: tailgating, unrecorded entries, disputed payments and manual errors. Good revenue control keeps the income the operation is owed.

Where revenue leaks

  • Vehicles tailgating through barriers without paying
  • Lost tickets settled at a guessed, lower rate
  • Unrecorded or manually overridden movements
  • Fraud and error at manual cashier points
  • Validation and discounts applied loosely

How modern systems protect it

ANPR records every entry and exit with a time-stamped image, so there are no lost-ticket disputes and no guesswork. Automated payment reduces cash handling and error, and every transaction and override is logged for reconciliation.

Reconciliation and reporting

The real control is in the reporting: being able to match movements to payments, see overrides and discounts, and spot anomalies. An integrated system turns the car park from a trust-based operation into an auditable one.
